W.A.Y.S. Winona Area Youth Singers
MCA is proud to announce the 2010-2011 season of WAYS (Winona Area Youth Singers), a youth choir for students in grades 4 - 8. WAYS seeks to take young people who have been introduced to choir/music in their elementary, middle, or junior high schools and further encourage and nurture the talent of those students who seek additional educational and performance opportunities in vocal music. The repertoire and focus of WAYS is more intensive by nature. The choir is meant to complement a student’s training they may already be receiving if involved in music classes or choir at their school. WAYS members will participate in concerts, a special mentorship program with Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota Choirs (in Semester II), and in community outreach by performing at benefits and for other charitable events.
SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT!
WAYS is being offered tuition free for the 2010-2011 academic year! This tuition waiver is made possible in part by a grant from the Young Singer’s Foundation.
A $50.00 performance fee is required. Financial need based scholarships are available. Placement auditions for new singers will be held during the Registration Open House, Thursday, September 9, 4 - 7 pm. Please contact Choir Director Lindsy O’Shea at 507-453-5503 to sign up for a specific audition time.
WAYS Winter Concert will be Monday, November 22, 7 pm at the Valéncia Arts Center Recital Hall. Additionally, WAYS will perform in a special collaboration with MCA’s dance division in the Dance Repertory Company’s production of The Nutcracker, Dec. 2 - 5 at Saint Mary’s University Page Theatre.
WAYS will meet weekly throughout the semester. Additional rehearsals prior to concert dates and with the Dance Repertory Company may be scheduled as well.
